Eye Candy

You can look but you can't touch.

Sounds familiar?

A week-end away, makes your week go by like a high-speed train. I've been working, in many ways, but here's a bit more about the work I get paid for. The picture above is what I get to look at. Not bad is it? Luckily though, I know when it's time to resist these things and we get to eat the most fabulous salads when we take a break. YUM.

A little bit more of the interior. On the left hand side, fresh juices and the coffee-machine...filled with coffee grains from 'illy'. The coffee that is hugely adored by me and Italians. In case you wonder, the first thing I do when I come to work is have a little cup of caffeine. No surprise there, right?

I hope you're having a lovely week-end. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow's weather conditions, as I will be out and about all day long, in order to take some great pictures.

Will be continued.

Mon Amour

Paris, once again, proved itself worthy of my everlasting love.

Just to make sure you don't forget it's a Parisian Taxi.

Having a little juice with Claudia.

And the best coffee in the world, an illy espresso.
In Sésame, located at the Canal Saint Martin.

The adorable waitress and the interior at Sésame.

A traditional Moroccan tea in the Parisian Mosque.
You can go here for food too...or to relax in gender-reserved Hammams.

Local artist.
Can you see what's on it?
It was already there, rest assured.

Amazing bookshop in Saint Germain.
Must-visit on your trip to Paris.

Being intellectual on one of the comfy beds.

Fed up with books, time for cheese.
From Olivier Dubois, best French cheese-maker.
Dairy Heaven.

Time for a party.
Best interior I've ever seen.
Mindblowing.

And another one.
The Flatwarming of the "Couvent".

Sunday = Brunch.
Love at first sight. Every time.

Goodnight and Goodbye

In a few hours, as in four to be exact...I'm waking up to move my probably half-sleeping body over to my beloved Paris.

Why I'm not sleeping yet is a mystery to me, I definitely should, but...you can always catch up on sleep when you're dead, right?

I am beyond enthusiastic about this particular visit to Paris. 'Hold on tight' would be the right expression to use in this case.

Before I finally go to sleep, here's something I rather fancy.

Picture from The Sartorialist.
Looks nice doesn't it? Perfect size, perfect colour, perfect shape. Alas, it's a little bit too pricey. If, however, you'd feel the urge to buy me this lovely Filson-bag...please do.

Enjoy your week-end.

Paris Chérie, see you in the morning.

Bisous Bisous

Today's post is dedicated to one of my best friends, because it's her birthday and she's one of those friends you just know you'll have forever.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MA GRANDE KARINE!

San Francisco - 2009.
So, as I told her to certainly not miss today's post, I want to tease her with some detail pictures of a few gifts I got her...

Here's where I bought the gifts.

Surprise Surprise

Ra Ra Ra
There's one more actually, but it's packed in paper, very delicate. So let's keep that one completely secret.

On my hunt, I walked by a rather nicely decorated door.

Mission accomplished.

If We Took A Holiday

I am just horrible.

There isn't a day in my life when I'm not thinking about travelling. Here I am, having the time of my life in London and I still manage to start thinking about filling up my free moments until the point where I won't even have 15 minutes to do 'nothing'.

But I can tell you, it's a lovely flaw. I am daydreaming about my sun-soaked summer, planning trips in the lovely months of springtime and even my short-term existence doesn't escape from the casual getaways.

A very good friend of mine recently told me that travelling is the way to everlasting youth. And by the looks of sunbathing, cocktail-sipping Natasha Poly, it is easy to agree on the fact that travelling might be the best anti-wrinkle product on the market.

So...use your money wisely and the next time you're tempted to buy that 1000kcal takeaway cheeseburger, you might want to think about Miss Poly putting her savings to better use than you do.

Fancy a Cuppa?

When working in the British Library, one could easily get slightly crazy and distracted. Not me however, I just pay more attention to the smaller details.

Like this for example.

It's a little cup, available to all the hard workers.

The water goes in there. Strange, no?
That's all.

O Romeo Romeo Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?

The last time I'd been to a ballet was ages ago in Saint Petersburg. Way too long.

Therefore, I went to see the Romeo & Juliet Ballet in the London Coliseum. It was a very last-minute decision, but we managed to get some fairly cheap tickets for some good seats.

The amazing cast.

The Coliseum

I took my glasses out on town that night.
I loved every single moment of the night. The ballet went on for three hours, with intervals. The Coliseum's interior added even more sparkle to the entire performance and all the spectators were dressed up for the event. It felt like one of those classic nights you shouldn't miss out on.

A few things which definitely caught my attention:

The Outfits.
The Ballet Dancer's Bodies.
The perfect timing of the orchestra, following every single move on stage.

Anyway, ballet seems to be quite the trend these days. How excited are you about this?

I already love this movie so much! If I make it to the première, I'll definitely say hello to Natalie & Mila.

Somehow I regret I ever gave up on jazz-ballet when I was still a kid. Ballet just seems awfully exciting when you get older. Maybe something to pick up again?

Yeah, right.

Just a Thought

The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.

Fresh Start

Finally, there it is.

You know people always go on about this 'fresh start' on New Year and on how you're gonna do things differently this year? Yes, exactly, that feeling.

I'll be honest, I didn't feel it. That is, until TODAY! (Long post, you are warned)

Strange however, because this year, I had one of the most memorable New Years I've ever had in my life so far...

But that feeling, nope. One of my best friends came over for New Year and my friends here have only just returned from their hometowns. So what's a guy to do?

1. Sleep well
2. Eat healthy
3. Work out
4. Print CV
5. Hand out CV
6. Shopping
7. Get British Library Readers Card (this does sound so smart)
8. Trial day for 2 jobs

That trial day, was today. And boy, I liked it. I got a job at trial #1 and let's say trial #2 was a kind of snoozefest, they're going to call me on Monday, and I'll definitely check out the salary, but as for now, I regard myself hired at job #1!

I don't exactly know why, but I really missed working. I used to love my job back in Antwerp, I used to work full-day shifts for fun...simply because I really liked my job. Workaholic? Maybe, but only if the job suits me.

Best decision ever!

I felt so happy when I was done working, I just saw this city through an entirely different angle. And life, actually. Meeting the people from this city on a different level, was really something I was looking forward to, oh boy, can you imagine the smile on my face already?

Anyway. Enough ranting about this fresh start-obsession! I can already imagine you sitting there and thinking...

So, I came home after a great day to find this wondeful video online, of one of my favorite blogs, The Sartorialist.

Laugh your ass off at 2:35.

Scott Schuman, the man behind the blog, is, as you can see, inspiring. Uneducated, daring and down to earth, he is out there and doing what he likes. Let's say this video showed me just what I needed and made this day even nicer.

This very long post, written in a short amount of time, just proves I feel absolutely ready for 2011 and...I've got some very exciting plans inside my head which definitely need to be carried out this year.

To be continued...

什麼是意外的驚喜!

Today was very nice/productive/surprising.

I printed out my CV, I handed out 9 out of 10 copies and I have found myself a job on the first day of job-hunting! Not burning my bridges however, I will still consider the others if they call me. More about my newfound way of income later this week, when I will have spent my first day there.

Also, I'm in for a very sporty day tomorrow. There's a charity-fitness day at the University, and I'm joining, to burn that excess Holiday-fat. For all participants, FREE MASSAGE included. I admit, this was the true raison for me to join.

Last but not least, I got a gift to make this day even better...

I was waiting to cross a street in Soho.

When a Chinese couple approached me.
Asked me for directions.
They wanted to see the Big Ben.

Told them to jump on the Northern line.
And get off at Embankment.

They thanked me at least a thousand times.
And gave me a gift, for my health.
At least, I think they said.

A limited-edition special-stamped envelope.
From China, with Chinese words on it.
I was flattered.

I really hope they enjoyed their time at the Big Old Ben. This little gift from these endlessly joyful people makes me a bigger fan of the most die-hard tourists of all times.

A productive day, olé!

Two Thousand Eleven

Wishing you a wonderful New Year from the city of London, even though I often say this (as in almost every year), I truly hope this year will be even better than the last one!

At the end of a year, it is often wise to think about the moments or events that made it worth the while...probably that list will be filled with ups and downs which will make you never forget 2010.

Let's have a go, shall we?

2010 to me, is...

The love for my hometown, a failed exam, a internship-trip to India (endangered by that exam), new friends on the way to that trip, visiting Florence, new friends, amazing colleagues at an amazing job, an unforgettable festival, a bunch of incredible parties, dinners, drinks, barbecues, sunset/sunrise, the Schelde (hometown-river), new interests, Paris, La Baule, joie-de-vivre, karaoke, Lady GaGa, pizza and wine, first time as a ski-instructor, my house burning down (fresh start included), my family, after-parties, receptions, jet-ski, paint on my clothes, sangria, COS, fashion-shows, my birthday party, leaving my flat, Tarifa, mojito, sun, beach, Mimizan, surfing, bodyboarding, dancing, beer, cocktails, wine, the trip to India , living out of a suitcase, passing the failed exam, my grandmother, orange juice, a hangover, my goodbye party (followed by a mysterious hangover), packing & of course...

London.

The day I started this little blog, I didn't have a clue how much pleasure it would give me. It started out as something I wasn't taking too serious, but now I see it as a part of me. I can express myself in many more ways than on other superficial networks (Facebook, I still love you) and when people tell you they enjoy your stories and pictures, it's the kind of feedback you couldn't be happier to get.

Since my arrival in London, I covered pretty much everything going on in my life, so I think you might have a clue of the other things I could add to my list...

So here we are, at the dawn of another year. What's in your list? And of course, what would you like to see in this year's list?

I am extremely thankful for everyone and everything I crossed on my path in 2010 and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next!

So let's raise a glass, if you're ready...to the rest of our lives.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
